Competitions for mechanical engineers

There are various competitions in which you can participate during your graduation.

SAE (society of automative engineers) organize three major events every year :

1. BAJA SAE- design and build an all terrain vehicle
2. SUPRA SAE- design and build a formula type race car
3. EffiCycle- design and build a hybrid cycle

ASME (american society of mechanical engineers) organize human powered vehicle challenge HPVC.

ISNE - It organizes go karting championship.

If you have interest in automobiles then these competitions will definitely helps you to improve your skills.I was participated in SUPRA SAE (2016).It was a cool experience for me and helps me to improve my basic knowledge.

Cooling capacity of refrigerators and air conditioners

Have you ever wondered ? Why capacity of domestic refrigerator and Air Conditioner (AC) is different though both are refrigeration system? What is the basic difference between them with respect to the cooling capacity? The capacity of domestic refrigerator is normally rated in 'Litre'. Litre actually a unit of volume and it is also applicable to the domestic refrigerator while dealing with space to be cooled. Torque convertor

Torque converter is a type of fluid coupling that uses a fluid to transmit turning effort from the one shaft to another. It is a device which performs a function similar to that of a gear box, namely, to increase the torque while reducing the speed. A gear box provides only a small number of fixed ratios, but the torque converter provides a continuous variation of ratio from the lowest to the highest.The torque convertor is somewhat similar to a fluid fly wheel, but differs from it in one aspect, namely it has three principal components instead of only two. Torque converter consists of (i) The driving element or impeller or pump which is connected to the engine. (ii) The driven element or rotor or turbine which is connected to the propeller shaft and (iii) The fixed element or reaction member or stator which is fixed to the frame.
